Almanac staff excellence: Academic and Professional leadership and service

Carlos Balam-Kuk Solís, Ph.D., associate vice president for the Technology Innovation Office, was appointed to Route to Market (RTM) Business Group’s Higher Chief Information Officer (CIO) Advisory Committee in October 2022.

Carlos Balam-Kuk Solís, Ph.D., associate vice president for the Technology Innovation Office, served as a regional leader for the Microsoft Global Community Initiative in December 2022.

Almanac staff excellence: Outreach 

Carlos Balam-Kuk Solís, Ph.D., associate vice president for the Technology Innovation Office, co-hosted a special presentation with Common Experience from Dr. Deb Donig (assistant professor of English Literature and co-founder of the Ethical Technology Project at California Polytechnic State University), entitled “The Future of Technology is Human,” in October 2022.

Carlos Balam-Kuk Solís, Ph.D., associate vice president for the Technology Innovation Office, presented “No-Code and the Microsoft Champions Program at Texas State University” at the EDU Inspire Hour (hosted by Fr. Melissa Hortman and Jennifer Lee) in October 2022.

Carlos Balam-Kuk Solís, Ph.D., associate vice president for the Technology Innovation Office, presented “No-Code Platforms: A State University’s Journey Towards Digital Transformation and Digital Inclusion” at the Route to Market (RTM) Higher Education CIO Congress in Austin, TX, November 2022.

Carlos Balam-Kuk Solís, Ph.D., associate vice president for the Technology Innovation Office, was featured in the “Benefits of Microsoft Power Platform as a Career Path in Tech” episode of “A Girl in Love with Tech Podcast (hosted by Rachel Irabor),” in December 2022.

Carlos Balam-Kuk Solís, Ph.D., associate vice president for the Technology Innovation Office, presented “Using Coding to Bridge the Digital Divide for Underserved Students at Texas State University” at the Higher Ed Community Meeting Online, in February 2023.

Kimberly Conner, J.D., publications writer, authored “Offering Online Students a Front Row Learning Experience.” The article was published by Campus Technology in June 2023.

Kimberly Conner, J.D., publications writer, authored “Who’s on First: Defining Institutional Roles in the Age of AI.” The article was published in Campus Technology in August 2023.

Carlos Balam-Kuk Solís, Ph.D., associate vice president for the Technology Innovation Office, authored “Addressing Digital Equity and Digital Inclusion for Underrepresented Students through No-Code/ Low-Code Platforms.” The article was published by Educational Technology Insights in August 2023.

Gage Anderson, systems administrator I, received a Master of Science in Cybersecurity from University of Texas at San Antonio in December 2022.

Michelle Sowell, IT projects coordinator, received a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Texas State University in December 2022.

Andrea Alvarado, senior user services consultant, received a Bachelor of Public Administration from Texas State University in May 2023.

Juan Morales, network technician, received the University Employee of the Month Award for December 2022.

Anne Faber, programmer analyst II, received the University Employee of the Month Award for April 2023.

Denise Wagner, business process analyst, received the University Employee of the Month Award for July 2023.
